Springs Valley Hall of Fame

Purpose

The purpose of the Springs Valley Education Foundation Hall of Fame will be to recognize those who have made significant contributions of time, ideas, expertise, or finances to the advancement of programs such as academics, arts, or athletics to Springs Valley Community Schools. In addition, the Hall of Fame may include those graduates who enhance the prestige of Springs Valley Schools by making significant contributions in their chosen professions and/or society as a whole.

Hall of Fame Committee

Composition of the Committee

The Hall of Fame Committee chairperson will be appointed by the Springs Valley Education Foundation Board.
The members of the HOF Committee will be selected by the chairperson subject to the approval of the Springs Valley Education Foundation Board.

Responsibilities of the Committee

The HOF Committee will determine the number of nominees to be elected to the Hall of Fame each year subject to the approval of the Springs Valley Education Foundation Board.

The HOF Committee will determine the details of the voting procedures each year.

The HOF Committee will determine the dates of the nomination period and the deadline.
The HOF Committee will be responsible for publishing information about the nomination process, the identities of the nominees, and the voting process.
With the approval of the Springs Valley Education Foundation Board, the Hall of Fame Committee can suspend the normal nomination and/or election procedures for a year in favor of considering special individuals or populations for inclusion into the Hall of Fame.

Nominees

Nominees can be drawn from:

graduates;
former faculty members, coaches, and/or administrators;
school board members;
community leaders;
parents;
organizations or businesses;
athletic teams;
or others who have made significant contributions to the Springs Valley Community Schools.

Nominees may be living or deceased.
Those selected for the Hall of Fame should meet one or more of the following criteria:

Rendering significant service, loyalty, and dedication to the schools;
Leadership;
Enhancement of the prestige and image of Springs Valley Schools;
Financial support;
Significant impact on students through teaching, counseling, or coaching;
Graduates that greatly impact their profession, community or society.

Nomination Procedures

Anyone may submit nominations.
The nomination form shall include the following information:

Name, address, phone number, and email address (if available).
Name of the nominee.
The category of the nominee - graduate, faculty member, coach, administrator, school board member, community leader, organization or team, etc.
The relationship of the person making the nomination to the nominee.
A 1-2 page statement summarizing the contributions of the nominee.

Nominations can be made online through the Springs Valley Schools web page, turned into the office of the Superintendent, or at other locations or by other means specified by the Hall of Fame Committee.
All nominations must be received by the Hall of Fame Committee by February 15th of each year or a date to be determined by the Hall of Fame committee.
At the conclusion of the nomination period, the nominations will be reviewed by the Hall of Fame Committee (HOFC).

Nominees who do not meet minimum criteria for consideration will be eliminated.
The HOF Committee shall have the authority to eliminate

frivolous nominations or nominees who are obviously unqualified for the Hall of Fame.

Multiple nominations from immediate family members will be treated as only one nomination for the purpose of determining whether or not the nominee will be placed on the ballot. "Immediate family members" are defined as spouses, children, and the spouses of the nominee's children.
Retired employees of Springs Valley Schools must have been retired for one full year at the time nominations are solicited in order for his/her name to appear on the ballot. This rule can be overridden by a majority vote of the Hall of Fame Committee in exceptional cases (e.g., health of the nominee).

Six (6) of the Seven (7) members of the HOF Committee must be present before elections to the HOF can be held.
Current or past candidates for the Hall of Fame must have been nominated through the normal nomination process.
The HOF Committee will compile a list of past and present nominees.

The list of candidates for the HOF each year will include the nominees for the current year and all the nominees from the preceding four (4) years.
Frivolous nominees or nominees who are unqualified under the rules of the HOF will be eliminated from the list.

Each HOF committee member will submit by secret ballot up to three

(3) nominees from the above list as candidates for the HOF.

1. The list of nominees that results from this ballot shall constitute the candidates to be considered for the HOF for the current year.

Before each round of voting, each HOF committee member will have the opportunity to discuss the merits of the individuals presented as candidates for the HOF.

If any vote results in more than three individuals being elected, members of the HOF committee will vote on the nominees tied for third place and the nominee(s) with the fewest number of votes will be eliminated.

First vote. Following the discussion, members of the HOF committee will vote by secret ballot for three (3) candidates on the list for election to the HOF.

At any stage of the voting process, a candidate will be deemed to have been elected if he/she receives two thirds (2/3) of the votes from the HOF committee members present.

If three (3) candidates are elected on the first vote, the voting will end.
At any stage of the voting process, HOF committee members may vote "no" for one or more of their votes if they feel the remaining candidates do not meet the criteria for election to the HOF.

Second vote. If less than three candidates are elected on the first vote, the candidates on the list who received zero (0) votes on the first vote will be dropped from the list.

A second vote will be held in which members of the HOF committee will vote by secret ballot for either 1, 2, or 3 candidates depending on the number elected on the first vote.

For example, if no one was elected on the first vote, the committee members will vote for three candidates; if one candidate was elected on the first vote, they will vote for two; if two candidates are elected on the first vote, they will vote for one candidate. If after the second vote, three candidates have been elected to the HOF, the voting will end.

Third vote. If after the second vote less than three candidates have been elected, the candidates on the list who received zero (0) votes on the second vote will be dropped from the list and a third vote will be conducted.

Once again, the number of candidates voted on by the HOF committee members will be determined by the number of individuals needed to obtain three new HOF members.
If after the third vote, two or three people have been elected to the HOF, the voting will be concluded.

Subsequent votes. If after the third vote only one candidate has been elected, additional votes can be held until at least one (1) additional candidate has been elected to the HOF.

Prior to each subsequent vote, a majority of the HOF committee members must vote in favor of continuing the voting.

If less than a majority of the committee members vote in favor of continuing the voting, the voting will cease.

Prior to each subsequent vote, candidates who receive zero (0) votes on the immediately preceding vote will be eliminated from the list of candidates.
Voting procedures on the subsequent votes will be the same as on the first three votes.

Announcement and Induction of Hall of Fame Members

The nominees elected to the Hall of Fame will be announced at in a timely manner.

Inductees will be enshrined at an Annual Hall of Fame Ceremony to be held in July during the weekend of the Springs Valley Alumni Banquet.

The identities of each year's inductees and summaries of their contributions will be published in the local newspaper prior to the ceremony.

Plaques and picture.

At the induction ceremony, each inductee will be presented with a 5-inch x 7-inch plaque in recognition of their election to the Hall of Fame.
A second 9-inch x 12-inch plaque with a 5-inch x 7-inch picture of the inductee will be placed at an appropriate location in Springs Valley Schools.
